Module 1 — The origin of Kambo

In this module you get to know the origin of kambo and the indigenous traditions from which its use originates. We cover the cultural and historical background, the meaning of kambo within different Amazon traditions and the importance of treating this knowledge with respect.

Module 2 — Traditions and lineages

We explore different traditions around kambo, including those of the Huni Kuin, Katukina and Matsés. You gain insight into their history, customs and the different ways in which kambo is traditionally applied.

Module 3 — The body and the effect of Kambo

This module goes deeper into what happens in the human body when kambo is used. Among other things we cover bioactive peptides, physiology, the immune system, the nervous system and relevant anatomical systems. We also discuss various physical reactions that may occur.

Module 4 — The nervous system and safety

Safety is an important part of responsible work with kambo. You deepen your understanding of the autonomic nervous system and stress responses such as fight, flight and freeze. We also cover screening, regulation, observation and important points of attention for creating a safe setting.

Module 5 — Preparation and intake

Careful preparation can play an important role in the course of a kambo session. In this module we cover the intake, screening, contraindications and various points of attention around preparation. Topics such as water, nutrition, breathing, intention and the structure of a session are also addressed.

Module 6 — The application of Kambo

In this module you gain insight into the practical application of kambo and the points of attention that play a role in it. Among other things we cover the gates, different placements, dosages, hygiene and safety, as well as the considerations made around the application of kambo.

Module 7 — Guiding the process

We cover the different phases that can occur during a kambo session. You gain insight into physical reactions, the purge, observation and body language. We also pay attention to situations in which a process unfolds differently than expected and which safety and action principles are important in that case.

Module 8 — Supporting plants and substances

Within various traditions, other plants and substances are used alongside kambo. In this module you get to know, among others, Sananga, Dragon’s Blood, Tamishi and working with smoke. We discuss their traditional background, applications and important points of attention around their use.

Module 9 — Royal Rapé and Kambo

This module gives insight into the background and application of Royal Rapé within the context of kambo. Among other things we cover safety, contraindications, dosage, administration and breathing, as well as situations in which use may or may not be appropriate.

Module 10 — Integration and aftercare

Kambo does not end right after a session. In this module we pay attention to integration, aftercare and recovery. We discuss topics such as nutrition, rest and recovery, but also signals that require extra attention and the importance of appropriate professional or medical support when needed.

Module 11 — Ethics, responsibility and professional conduct

The final module centres on responsible conduct. We cover ethics, professional boundaries, protocols, record keeping, privacy and responsible entrepreneurship. This gives you insight into the responsibilities involved in working professionally with kambo.
