How to use rapé – consciously, safely and with intention
Rapé is a sacred gift from the Amazon rainforest, used by indigenous tribes such as the Huni Kuin and Yawanawá for purification, focus and spiritual connection.
At Heartcore by Nature we work with deep reverence for these traditions. When you learn how to use rapé, you learn not only an action – you learn an attitude of presence, breath and intention.
The meaning of rapé
Rapé (pronounced: ha-peh) is a fine powder of sacred herbs and tree ash. It is ceremonially blown into the nostrils to cleanse the body, clarify the mind and open the heart.
It is a moment of return: to silence, to breath, to the centre of yourself.
Preparation – set & setting
Before you use rapé, take a moment to attune your environment and energy. Create a quiet place, light a candle if you like or burn some sacred smoke.
Sit with a straight back and an open heart. Set a clear intention — for example clarity, letting go or gratitude. Intention is the key: it determines the direction of your experience.
Using the Kuripe
Traditionally rapé is blown in with a small pipe called the Kuripe. With it you bring the powder into your nose using your own breath.
Breathe in deeply, keep your intention in mind and then blow firmly but in a controlled way into one nostril. Then repeat on the other side.
Let the powder do its work. There may be a tingling, a tear or pressure — this is normal. It is a sign that the body is responding and cleansing.
Breath and surrender
After receiving rapé, close your eyes and breathe calmly. The breath is your guide – follow her with softness.
Sometimes emotion comes, sometimes silence. Everything is welcome.
Rapé helps release what is stuck and brings you back to the centre of your being, where clarity and calm reside.
After the ceremony
Afterwards, take time for integration. Drink some water or cacao, stay in silence and observe what lives in you.
Write down insights if you like, or rest a little longer. The ritual doesn’t end with the last breath – it continues to work subtly in your energy and awareness.
Respect for the sacred
When you learn how to use rapé, you work with a sacred medicine that has been shared with prayer and intention for generations.
Never use it carelessly or out of curiosity, but with gratitude and respect.
In the right setting rapé becomes a gateway to silence, purification and connection – a reminder of the power of breath and presence.
